The Coldest Motorbike Drive Ever Barely To Be On Time.

I suppose, the coldest that I have ever been in my time was riding a motorcycle. I was in the armed forces at the time and I was stationed at fort Lewis Washington. I rode my motorbikeover to Portland Oregon to go to see my family. I had a incredibly nice holiday.

The climate was cozy and dry when I started the trip down to Portland. It was very nice and warm every day of my leave with the exception of for the date I was to go back to the base.

I should have known, the last day of my leave the conditions turned chilly and wet. Just my luck, I had to ride the 250-mile trip in return to Ft. Lewis in the cold rain. To make things worse the girl that I was seeing at the time determined to journey up along with me.

I recall pulling into a roadside café slightly out side of Chehalis, it was so frozen that even with gloves on, when I went to shift gears the bike I could not secure my fingers to draw the clutch in. I had to coil the tips of my fingers around the clutch bar and draw it in with my whole arm. I did get the motorcycle stopped however.

Getting off the motorbike was interesting to say the least. Because of the freezing rain a sheet of ice had fashioned on the front of my legs. The ice went from the cuff of my jeans to the top of my pants packet. While I got up the ice crackled and fell to the ground like someone striking a plate glass window with a sledge hammer. I was so aching from the cold, trying to boost my leg up and over the seat made me think like I was 95 years older after hip replacement surgery.

We made it indoors and the warmth was both a relief and a annoyance. The warmth felt nice and comforting to my cramped and aching body. My hands on the other hand, pardon the pun, cried out in pain. Well it was not that I was so much into them as it was all that I was able to buy malady didn’t last forever though and in 1975 I joined the army and the next year I bought a brand new bicentennial Harley Davidson Sportster. Although it was one of those AMF Harley Davidsons, it was a a nice ride. I picked it up while I was in Germany and I road my Sportster all over Europe. I road my Harley for a good ten years after that, in 1987 I had to give it a decent burial because I had a motorcycle accident. I have owned quite a few motorcycles over the last 25 years. I have purchased just about

every kind of scooteryou can perceive. I had a Harley Fat Boy for a while, I owned a KZ LTD. 1000cc Kawasaki Police interceptor, and I’ve also had a Yamaha 250 Enduro and a 1975 Bultaco Alpina 250cc for playing in the dirt.

Good times and gret motorcycles all, but times have changed, I have grown a bit older and although my taste in scooters hasn’t changed all that much I do prefer a more comfortable motorcycle these days. I ride a Honda 2005 1300 VTX at present.

I admit to some, riding a motorcycle that isn’t made in the USA might be considered un-cool or traitorous. To

them I say, GET OVER IT! Long gone are the days of my, it’s got to be a Harley or nothing at all. I am not saying that I wouldn’t own or ride a Harley

they are stupendous bikes. I’m just saying, it doesn’t matter what the motorcycle is, what matters is that I can get out on the open road.

I must say my VTX 1300 has a nice smooth ride, it is very comfortable on long rides and it has all of the power I need.

The one thing about my VTX though is, it is a 2005 and it’s getting a few miles on it. I am thinking about getting rid of it and getting something different. I am not sure yet what kind of motorbike I want. I am thinking that I might not buy a new bike this time. Oh well I am not in any great hurry but I just might start looking for inquiring about a used motorcycle for sale.
