Astigmatism is an eye alteration wherein there is an anomalous curvature of the eye lens. Ordinarily, the method to rectify astigmatism is to wear eyeglasses. In our family with 7 members, 2 of us are suffering from astigmatism, my brother and I. My brother’s astigmatism was discovered before mine. And since he already has flawed eyesight, purporting his vision is not 20/20 anymore- it just made the circumstances worse. And since Laser Vision Corection was not that ordinarily offered and well-known, our parents brought him to an Ophthalmologist and then directed to wear corrective eyeglasses. He had to wear eyeglasses continually unless he was washing his face or sleeping. A year or two had elapsed and yet his vision did not improve and he still had astigmatism. And since the disorder is not astigmatism only, his eye grade adjusted over time and he had to switch his eyeglasses. Unfortunately, the maintenance is quite expensive and is frequent.

As for me, I have a 20/20 and 20/25 vision and is affected by astigmatism too. Like my brother, I had to wear remedial glasses also and since I was so not used wearing something for my eye, I repeatedly don’t wear it and more often mislay it. It was very awkward and a pain, I thought.

It was in the latter months of 2008 that Lasik laser eye surgery was advised by a family friend. He said it was only a minor surgery and that the recovery from it was fast and that he was able to see its consequence and the improvement it has done to his sister. We were first distrustful and thought it was very invasive but then my brother was very enthusiastic to try it. He was 22 when he underwent the surgical procedure.

It was his left eye that underwent surgery initially. My brother said there was no pain in any way. He only experienced some sort of pressure to his eye and not surprisingly the dryness; but there is no significant pain, per se. The entire process took only 14 minutes and even after that, my brother did not grumble of any hurting or halos or blurring of vision in any way. He was ordered to take in antibiotics and eye drops to help keep the wetness of the operated eye. My brother was ordered to wear an eye shield especially at night, avoid consuming seafood for at least two weeks and avoid things that might injure the operated eye. Only a few days after the surgical treatment, my brother’s vision improved and he doesn’t wear his eyeglasses any longer. A week after, his left eye vision were 20/15- almost regular.

LASIK Laser eye surgical treatment is an outstanding choice for my brother and for those who have eye problems. It made possible the things we thought were without a solution. My brother, up to now, doesn’t need to wear eyeglasses. It did not only treat his astigmatism but also enhanced his eyesight on the whole.
