Astigmatism is an eye alteration wherein there is an anomalous curvature of the eye lens. Ordinarily, the method to rectify astigmatism is to wear eyeglasses. In our family with 7 members, 2 of us are suffering from astigmatism, my brother and I. My brother’s astigmatism was discovered before mine. And since he already has flawed eyesight, purporting his vision is not 20/20 anymore- it just made the circumstances worse. And since Laser Vision Corection was not that ordinarily offered and well-known, our parents brought him to an Ophthalmologist and then directed to wear corrective eyeglasses. He had to wear eyeglasses continually unless he was washing his face or sleeping. A year or two had elapsed and yet his vision did not improve and he still had astigmatism. And since the disorder is not astigmatism only, his eye grade adjusted over time and he had to switch his eyeglasses. Unfortunately, the maintenance is quite expensive and is frequent.
As for me, I have a 20/20 and 20/25 vision and is affected by astigmatism too. Like my brother, I had to wear remedial glasses also and since I was so not used wearing something for my eye, I repeatedly don’t wear it and more often mislay it. It was very awkward and a pain, I thought.
It was in the latter months of 2008 that Lasik laser eye surgery was advised by a family friend. He said it was only a minor surgery and that the recovery from it was fast and that he was able to see its consequence and the improvement it has done to his sister. We were first distrustful and thought it was very invasive but then my brother was very enthusiastic to try it. He was 22 when he underwent the surgical procedure.
It was his left eye that underwent surgery initially. My brother said there was no pain in any way. He only experienced some sort of pressure to his eye and not surprisingly the dryness; but there is no significant pain, per se. The entire process took only 14 minutes and even after that, my brother did not grumble of any hurting or halos or blurring of vision in any way. He was ordered to take in antibiotics and eye drops to help keep the wetness of the operated eye. My brother was ordered to wear an eye shield especially at night, avoid consuming seafood for at least two weeks and avoid things that might injure the operated eye. Only a few days after the surgical treatment, my brother’s vision improved and he doesn’t wear his eyeglasses any longer. A week after, his left eye vision were 20/15- almost regular.
LASIK Laser eye surgical treatment is an outstanding choice for my brother and for those who have eye problems. It made possible the things we thought were without a solution. My brother, up to now, doesn’t need to wear eyeglasses. It did not only treat his astigmatism but also enhanced his eyesight on the whole. Hopefully, at the end of this year, he will have the surgery for his right eye and we are looking forward to another admirable result. We highly advocate Astigmatism Surgery. Headaches, eyestrain, failure to focus are ordinary signs of visual problem; and a visit to the ophthalmologist is recommended. Folks who sit at a desk eight hours a day may sooner or later suffer astigmatism from constantly straining the eyes at the computer. Astigmatism is a regular condition which can either be hereditary or develop from poor work habits and posture. Used to amend irregular corneal curvature, astigmatism LASIK surgery can effectively bring back 20/20 vision in most cases. Laser in-situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is an intricate but effective procedure for correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, or hazy vision caused by irregular curvatures in the surface of the cornea.
Normal corneas have an even curvature which permits persons to wear typical rigid or soft contacts with little complexity. Astigmatism LASIK surgery reconstructs the cornea to match up to a more spherical shape, thereby enhancing refraction and vision. LASIK has unrelenting popularity as an option to wearing contacts, which can get scratched, cause infections, and may be challenging for some to wear or place properly over the eye. Advanced technology has made the procedure routine, with many people, who rather not to wear spectacles, preferring to undergo this form of cure. In individuals with astigmatism, the cornea is more football shaped than sphere-shaped. The cornea is the see-through film which coats the surface of the iris and the pupil. It closely resembles a soft contact lens and acts in much the same way.
Refractive surgical procedure is extremely successful, but nearly all surgeons favor operating on one eye at a time as a safety measure against problems which could permanently impair vision. Exceedingly accomplished eye surgeons that execute astigmatism LASIK surgery make use of corneal topography and keratometry to take minute measurements of the irregular topography of a person’s cornea. A digital map of the cornea is then used to graph meticulous surgical procedures to re-sculpt the essential tissue of the membrane and make curvatures more proportioned. For persons with astigmatism, nearsightedness or farsightedness, surgeons utilize a microkeratome to speedily lift and peel back the outer layer of the corneal flap. Underlying tissue is re-formed using accurate laser beams and the flap is altered. For patients with astigmatism, lasers can duplicate pictures mapped using corneal topography and keratometry to remedy hazy vision and irregularities and enable patients to see 20/20.
Though astigmatism LASIK surgery is reasonably painless, entails no dressing, and can be completed as an outpatient procedure in a matter of minutes, the utmost benefit is the ability to see without contacts or spectacles. LASIK evidently turns back the hands of time for the elderly or those who acquire vision troubles as they grow older. Adults go for Refractive Surgery so as to improve on wearisome tasks or calculations in front of a PC LCD all day. Eye sight troubles are fixed or improved almost instantaneously; and future adjustments can be made years after as they are required. Vision restitution is nearly 100 percent dependable and effective; and patients can usually be back on their work the next day without wearing protective glasses.

The primary application of lasers in the every day lives of the general population was the supermarket barcode scanner. It was introduced in 1974. The laserdisc player was launched in 1978. It was the first successful consumer product to include a laser, despite the fact the compact disc player was the first laser-equipped appliance to become truly common in consumers’ homes since 1982, followed soon by laser printers. When lasers were concocted in 1960, they were called “a solution looking for a problem”. Since then, they have become present everywhere, finding function in thousands of very disparate purposes in a lot of aspects of modern society, including consumer electronics, information technology, science, industry, law enforcement, entertainment, military and medicine.
Laser is a piece of equipment that discharges light known as electromagnetic radiation through a process called stimulated emission. Laser light is generally spatially uniform, which means that the light either is emitted in a fine, low-divergence beam, or can be transformed into one with the help of optical apparatus such as lenses. Normally, coherent light predictably suggests the source produces light waves that are in step. They have the alike frequencies and identical phase. The coherence of conventional laser emission is a usual feature of lasers. Most other light sources emit incoherent light, which has a point that varies arbitrarily with time and position. Normally, lasers are thought of as releasing light with a narrow wavelength spectrum or monochromatic light. This is not correct of all lasers, nevertheless, some emit light with a broad spectrum, while others release light at many distinct wavelengths simultaneously.
Laser in situ keratomileusis, LASIK, renowned name in refractive eye operation, provides vision enhancement through the application of a laser by restructuring the cornea and correcting its focusing power. Since 1993, LASIK has been carried out in the U.S. on millions of patients with the help of a wide collection of lasers. This process can be used to correct myopia or nearsightedness, hyperopia or farsightedness, and astigmatism or misshapen cornea. There are currently more than a few diverse lasers that have received FDA consent for LASIK Eye Surgery. There are various lasers for use in myopic and hyperopic patients, but most allow for rectification of astigmatism.
One of the supreme enemies of our eyes is the sun. Similar to the skin, eyes are damaged by UV rays coming from the sun, whether it is a cloudy or a clear and sunny day. Sunglasses should always be worn in daylight hours when you are outside and you need to be sure that the sunglasses you select give ultra-violet ray shield. There are many sunglasses sold which are just colored glass and do not really care for your eyes, they simply provide cover from the brightness. Take care of your eyes, we only got a pair. LASIK is a type of surgery performed basically on the corneal (the transparent superficial stratum of the eyeball) portion of the eye. Long before LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) surgery was recognized, many types of eye surgery are being discerned and experimented by surgeons to cure certain eye defects and problems. The technique of LASIK was discovered way back in the 1950’s by a Columbia-based Spanish Ophthalmologist. The incessant studies, research and experiment regarding this procedure has brought revolution and a huge step ahead for the progress of information and ascertainment of other methods like RK (radial keratotomy), wavefront-guided PRK and the current intraocular lenses. This technology is also now applied in Astigmatism Surgery.
Here’s an overview of Laser Surgery for better perception: LASIK (Corneal surgery), is an irreparable eye operation that is essentially carried out to correct Myopia (near sightedness), Hyperopia (far sightedness) and Astigmatism (abnormal curvature of the eye lens). It is performed by an Ophthalmologist after some tests in able to verify if the client is a candidate for the surgery. For many patients, LASIK is a fair alternative to prevent the use of contact lenses and/or eyeglasses since all of them are for the purpose of correcting eye problem.
The total procedure will only take 10 to 15 minutes each eye and only needed a mild sedative and anesthesia and is categorize as an out-patient surgery. But just like any other procedure, an informed consent is needed since, although LASIK is an OPD type operation, it is still an aggressive procedure and may cause complications to the patient. Diagnostic examinations are required. Initial reason for it is of course you don’t want to have your cornea being flapped and suctioned for no reason at all and secondly, for your Ophthalmologist to know what accurately needs to be done, what are the potential complications that might happen and be prepared ahead of time.
Beforehand, several preparations and familiarization are done. The operation proper is divided into 3 main procedures. First is the makingconstruction of a flap in the corneal tissue. The second is the laser remodeling. With the use of Excimer laser, the corneal stroma will be modified based on how much stroma will be detach based on the diagnosis. Thirdly and lastly, the repositioning of the flap. In this step, the surgeon will restore the flap to its place but first the presence of debris and bubbles are ensure before it is placed back. No stitches are required. The “initial success” postoperative process will be laid to the patient’s sleep pattern (in order to permit the effortless adhesion and healing process of the eye), some anti-infectives and anti-inflammatory eye medications.
Notwithstanding the minimal aberration the LASIK surgery cause, there are still provisions that needs to be done by the patient to minimize or even prevent further complication. Some of these are: often and lengthened sleep hours, utilization of eye shield or patch to prevent the unintended rubbing of the operated eye, avoid stooping and bending to avert the increase of eye pressure, appropriate and strict submission with prescribed medication and of course follow-up check up.
